The Linux Operating System is widely used in Anroid tablets and smartphones. Linux is also the system of choice for mainframe computing.

Where is the Linux Operating System Used?

Linux is a computer operating system built around the Linux kernel. A kernel is a computer program that allows software to communicate with a computer processing unit and associated components. The Android OS requires the Linus kernel in order to operate. The development of Linux was initially a reaction to licensing limitations placed on earlier kernels that were just released for educational purposes only. The inventor of the Linux kernel Linus Torvalds a Finnish computer scientist (not from Nokia) is still working on developing the kernel and creating free computer software with GNU (General Public Licenses).
